Autumn in America

I revel in the crispiness of autumn...the crunch under my feet...the smell of leaves saying their last whispered farewells.

Bracing and refreshing, the fall air is full of fulfillment and the faint fragrance of the feckful future.

Last Day on Langkawi Island

Rolling out to the taxi with our new Bangladeshi friend.

The "Fish Walk" that my boys did races on going to and from the beach. A fun touch of color!

A plant which reminded me of fireworks. Exploding in it's pose . . . hot green!

Pruitt . . . thrilled to be in the water . . . thrilled to be alive . . . living in the moment like so many of us have forgotten how to do.

Vignettes from Malaysia

What can I say...I love rope and this "save the tree" contraption with wood and wire and rope was fascinating to me.

What can I say . . . I love grids. I was walking back to the entrance of the canopy-walk park with my family (me, lagging behind with my camera) and found this grid on the road. I like that it follows all of the rules and yet still does not conform. I was struck with the contrast of new leaves sprouting from below with old ones fallen from above and their complementary colors. I hereby proclaim this photo a window of contemplation. Ha! Spiritualize it. Psychoanalyze it. Deconstruct it. Criticize it. Write a poem about it. It is very versatile. I did resurrect it's squareness in Photoshop with the "skew" tool due to lack of a tripod and a latent desire to maintain the natural lighting (as if that couldn't be dealt with in Photoshop as well).

Thirsty Leaves

I took these shots this morning from our veranda. This image captures what I saw when I took the picture. By sharpening it a bit and portraying it in black and white, I think I captured a little bit of the beauty of the chemistry of water and the subtleties of the leaf upon which the droplets crowd.

Here is the unvarnished image before it met Photoshop. Critique anyone?

I love color and so with this next photo I went crazy with the tropical green that was in my memory versus the unfamiliar hues that my camera captured.

...those unfamiliar hues.

The Bicycle

We stayed at this hotel in Saidpur which actually had air-conditioning which I made good use of. The only problem was that when I came out to the courtyard where our van was parked in the morning and found this good shot, my lens promptly steamed over. The first shot is a Photoshop doctored version, the second the original, and the third a variation with more diagonals and complementary colors.

Bloomin' Stuff

This neat little flower pot was found on the roof of my office.

The following two are shots of the Krishnachura tree. I had totally forgotten how this tree illuminates the countryside of Bangladesh at certain times of the year. I would love to get it framed in a complementary deep blue sky, but unfortunately we don't see too much of that this time of year. I guess I'll settle for green foliage.
