Vignettes from Malaysia

What can I say...I love rope and this "save the tree" contraption with wood and wire and rope was fascinating to me.

What can I say . . . I love grids. I was walking back to the entrance of the canopy-walk park with my family (me, lagging behind with my camera) and found this grid on the road. I like that it follows all of the rules and yet still does not conform. I was struck with the contrast of new leaves sprouting from below with old ones fallen from above and their complementary colors. I hereby proclaim this photo a window of contemplation. Ha! Spiritualize it. Psychoanalyze it. Deconstruct it. Criticize it. Write a poem about it. It is very versatile. I did resurrect it's squareness in Photoshop with the "skew" tool due to lack of a tripod and a latent desire to maintain the natural lighting (as if that couldn't be dealt with in Photoshop as well).

Traveling Colors

A Jhal Muri Wallah hawking his wares on the ferry. This is one of my favorite street vendor snacks. Unfortunately, Jensen and I had too much and are still making frequent trips to the bathroom four days later. Definitely worth it though. The snack consists of puffed rice, tomatoes, chillis, onions, mustard oil, and chanachur.

It is really difficult to describe traffic here in Bangladesh other than to say it is very un-North American and very well orchestrated.

On the ferry I had to capture this amazing rope shot. Okay, I like ropes...analyze that!

The trucks are crammed onto the ferry like sardines. The black and white sign is the license plate. As usual, the colors are primary and "in your face" in a pleasant, folksy kind of way.

The Front Part of the Boat

I am not a good sailor or pirate. Arghh! Matey! This photo has some issues but I can't quite grasp what they are. I love the textures. The triangular composition grounds the picture. I think the rope is the problem. It looks posed. What is the little white circle? I guess I can use this photo as source material for a watercolor. Ha!
