I cannot resist sugared cranberries. I used this recipe, with some modifications, namely the addition of cinnamon and cloves steeped with the syrup mixture. Thanks to our dear head office folks we had fresh cranberries for Thanksgiving. Thank you Asia Desk.
Lovely photos. Thank you. You must have quite a few more Bangladeshi contacts than your dear wife. Please ask them to get some true, unadulterated NOLEN GUR & PATALI GUR [madefrom the sugar date palm, Phoenix sylvestris] from MADARIPUR [best] or Jessore/Jhenaidah.
Your family deserves a treat:they need to taste the maple syrup & maple candy of Bangladesh. Pleasetell me if it is better than maple syrup or worse: Ineed an honest feedback. I have spent a lifetime researching this palm. Bangladesh's agriculture has some real serious problems, as you well know. Helen Keller International does excellent work. I too have offered to place all I have learnt at MCC's disposal, without any hooks. Ron Fleming used to be someone at the centre, who knows who is now? Along with your wonderful crafts efforts, a few date palms and lime trees can work miracles for the "landless" person. Even a single palm can, growing on the narrow perimeter surrounding every homestead. A single lime produces upwards of 2000 fruit, if cared properly. We specialize in the very small FARM FAMILY as a whole. So please use what we have to offer. Nothing fancy, just local plants used in a thoughtful way. As you daily realize, thought & caring are the two magic ingredients that have fled the subcontinent in the collective. Yet they do exist in the individual sphere. That is the sad paradox. Only by harnessing the power of these 2 forces can we make any progress, be it in a tiny local project or whatever. I have seen Bangladesh being birthed, my family can trace at least 32 generations on her breast, so I am not a casual do-gooder.
